    Chair: Larry Ligon
    Co-Chair: Gwen Cauthren

    Event Overview:

Can you optimally drag the rope handle to a downed skier?  Know where the brakes are? Properly pull a skier, boarder or surfer out of the water? Know your duties as a crew member? Almost none of these course materials are covered in the Calif. Boating Card/License or Coast Guard Courses.

Experts will show you what to do, how to drive and pull skiers safely in almost any situation on the water. Emphasis is placed on driving and crewing on the Delta.

This is a hands-on course that puts you in the driver's seat after a morning of classroom instruction and shows you how to master everything from parallel parking, skier guidelines, driver etiquette, towing skiers, surfers & boarders, crew member responsibilities, rules of the “water” and avoiding dangerous situations.

The club strongly encourages any member who either wants to drive or crew on a boat to attend this clinic to obtain up-to-date training.  If you would like to gain the skills necessary to drive for the club, brush up your boating skills, or just learn to be a better boat hand, come join us. It is a fun, low-cost, learning experience, providing valuable skill building and enhancement of your boating safety.

    Event Details:

Spend a day on the water at Larry & Gwen’s home in
Discovery Bay for this informative course that offers increased confidence & awareness.  4 hours of classroom instruction will be followed (after a lunch break) by 4 hours of driving practice on the water with expert instructors.  A highlight of the clinic is a presentation by the Sheriff’s Marine Patrol.

    Event Overview:

BAWSC Slalom Ski Clinic Coming Friday June 7

Improve your slalom skiing skills on Friday, June 7 with individual instruction by world-class slalom skier and coach Greg Badal at Lakeside Ranch private ski lake.

Who:  Greg Badal, 2016 Big Dawg champion
, National Record Holder (4 balls @41 off), and 2016 USA Water Ski National Champion (Men's 3) has volunteered once-again to teach the BAWSC slalom clinic for up to 10 fortunate club members.

Where:  BAWSC will be renting access to the exclusive Diablo Shores slalom lake, (in Brentwood ≈ 15 min. from Discovery Bay), to enhance your skills with the flattest water and the ultimate slalom environment while pulled behind a new, 2019 Ski Nautique slalom boat.

Cost and Sign-ups:  After event registration your check can be accepted for one of 10 member spots. Your check for $TBD reserves your spot for two coaching sets.  Normally this level of coaching would cost over $200/person.  Last day to register is Mon. June 4.  Due to the popularity of this event, register on the web site now and get your check in early.  Once your register you will receive instructions where to mail your check.

Schedule:  It will be a 2 round slalom clinic with one-on-one coaching by Greg.  Figure on about six passes down the slalom course or about 20 min. per person. The morning sessions will begin at 8:00 AM with one skier scheduled approximately every 20 min. and ending about 11:40. We will break for lunch from 11:40 to 12:40 PM. The afternoon sessions will begin at 12:40 PM, and end about 4:20 PM, with the same rotation as the morning sessions.

    Demo
the latest Goode water skis, boots and other accessories with expert advice and setup from Greg.

    DON’T FEAR!
You don’t need to have ever skied through a slalom course to benefit from Greg’s coaching. Since the instruction is customized for your skill level, you can choose to ignore the slalom course or simply use the buoys for timing of your turns. Nor do you have to be a great skier to benefit from this clinic. However, please see minimum eligibility requirements below.

    Eligibility:
BAWSC MEMBERS ONLY (NO GUESTS). You MUST be able to easily get up on a slalom ski, be able to turn and comfortably cross the wake. This is NOT for brand-new beginners and is NOT a "learn to slalom ski for the first time” clinic. You must bring your own ski, vest & gloves.

    Additional Event details
, slot rotation sign-up and directions information will be sent to all participants prior to the event.

    • On-Line Voting
    Hello BAWSC Members:

We are ready to start the election process for our 2020 BAWSC Officers.  The elections will take place during the month of October.

We are seeking people who are interested in the 4 Officer positions of the club which are voted on by our membership.  This is a great opportunity for you to get involved in the club next year and help guide the club as we enter our 26th year.  We are always looking for new ideas in how we can make the club more fun for everyone involved.  If you are interested in seeing the club continue as strongly in 2020, please consider volunteering to be an officer or board member in 2020.  Contributing back to the club either by participating as an officer, board member, or chair person, can be a very rewarding experience and will allow you to add new job competencies.

Please contact me (Larry Ligon at larry_ligon@sbcglobal.net) if you would like your name to be placed on the October ballot for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary.  The deadline for getting your name on the ballot is Friday October 14.

If you would like to be considered for a position on the 2018 Board of Directors, please contact me with this information as well so we can gauge how much interest there is from the current membership for board positions.  The 2020 Board of Directors will be selected by the 2020 elected officers in November.

Please note that the board now meets by teleconference so it doesn't matter where you live to become an officer or board member of the club.  It requires a time commitment of  just 1.5 hours per month for board meetings and you help decide which events and policies the club should adopt going forward.

Feel free to contact any of the existing officers/board members if you have questions about any of the officer positions and what is involved as several of the current board members are past presidents and/or have been board members/officers of the club for well over a decade.

The official election/voting will commence on Saturday October 15 and run through October 31.

    Thank you,

    Larry Ligon

    2015 Vice President

    Officer Duties:

The President, or in his absence the Vice-Presidents in their order, or in the absence of a Vice-President, the Treasurer, shall preside at all meetings of the membership and the Board of Directors, and they shall perform the usual duties of the office.

The Vice-President, in their order, shall perform the duties of the President in the absence or inability of the President to discharge the duties of their office, and such other duties as the membership may determine from time to time.  The Vice-President will also be responsible for running the annual election and developing/publishing all board meeting agendas.

The Treasurer shall collect, receive and deposit funds of the BAWSC as directed by the Board of Directors; render periodic financial statements to the Board of Directors and the membership and render such other reports and accounts of the financial condition of the BAWSC as may from time to time be requested by the Board of Directors or the membership and shall perform such other duties as are included in the office of Treasurer.  Treasurer cannot write a check in excess of THREE-HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS ($350.00) without board authorization. Treasurer will provide summary cash flow statement at each general meeting or when requested by any member.

The Recording Secretary shall be responsible for the minutes and records of the meetings of the membership and the Board of Directors.
