Day Hike & Picnic @ Mt. Diablo

  • 03/17/2012
  • Mount Diablo

How many times have you been on the Delta and wondered how do you get back to the marina you started from? The first thing I do is look for Mount Diablo for orientation. I use Mount Diablo when I am driving to sense distance and direction. It is truly a beacon for navigation for pilots and boat captains. The whole time you have lived in the Bay Area, have you ever been to the top of Mount Diablo?

Saturday March 17, 2012, join me and fellow BAWSC members for a 6.2 mile moderate hike long the Summit Loop Trail in Mount Diablo State Park. This will be about a 3-4 hour hike with a lunch break on the summit, delivering fantastic views of the bay area and central valley, weather permitting.

We will enter through the South Gate (South Gate Road off of Blackhawk Dr.,Danville ) and meet at the Diablo Valley Overlook turnout. Please try to carpool since there is a day use fee to enter the park. Be sure to pack your lunch, water and wear layers. If it rains we will cancel and reschedule. We will meet at 9:30 am , and start hiking at 10:00 o'clock am.

Contact Jerry Baxter if you are ready for the challenge.
