    Chair:  Chris Feduniw

Please join fellow BAWSC participants for a spring hike to get our legs and lungs into shape to hit the water this year!

This years hike will take place in Almaden Quicksilver County Park in San Jose weather permitting.   We will meet at the Hacienda Entrance.

The park is the site of over 135 years of mining activities and former home to more than 1,800 miners and their families. The park encompasses 4,163 acres, occupying a majority of Capitancillos Ridge. During early spring, the park offers one of the most spectacular wildflower displays in the region. Remnants of the mining era also offer an exciting look into mining operations of the latter part of the 19th century

There is no BAWSC event fee for this event and there is no fee to enter the park.
Please try and carpool to this event using the club message board to arrange car-pools.

Please pack drinks and a lunch which we will either eat on the trail or back in the base camp picnic grounds depending how fast we hike.

    • 05/31/2024
    • 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM
    • Ligon Home Disco Bay
    • 12
    Chair: Larry Ligon
    Co-Chair: Gwen Cauthren

    Event Overview:
Can you optimally drag the rope handle to a downed skier?  Know where the brakes are? Properly pull a skier, boarder or surfer out of the water? Know your duties as a crew member? Almost none of these course materials are covered in the Calif. Boating Card/License or Coast Guard Courses.

Experts will show you what to do, how to drive and pull skiers safely in almost any situation on the water.  Emphasis is placed on driving and crewing on the Delta.

This is a hands-on course that puts you in the driver's seat after a morning of classroom instruction and shows you how to master everything from parallel parking, skier guidelines, driver etiquette, towing skiers, surfers & boarders, crew member responsibilities, rules of the “water” and avoiding dangerous situations.

The club strongly encourages any member who either wants to drive or crew on a boat to attend this clinic to obtain up-to-date training.  If you would like to gain the skills necessary to drive for the club, brush up your boating skills, or just learn to be a better boat hand, come join us. It is a fun, low-cost, learning experience, providing valuable skill building and enhancement of your boating safety.

    Event Details:
Spend Friday 5/31 on the water at Larry & Gwen’s home in
Discovery Bay for this informative course that offers increased confidence & awareness.  4 hours of classroom instruction will be followed (after a lunch break) by 4 hours of driving practice on the water with expert instructors.  An often highlight of the clinic is a presentation by the Sheriff’s Marine Patrol.

NOTEAnyone 60 years old and younger, planning to practice driving in the afternoon session MUST have their California Boating License/Card!
(If you only want to practice your crew member skills and not drive in the afternoon, then this license is not required but suggested)

    Event Overview:  TBD

No matter your skiing abilities, if your goal is to learn something new or focus on improving 1-2 things about your style, this event is for you!!

This is a learn to ski/improve your skiing event where our own seasoned skiers will be available to help beginners learn how to get up on skies for the first time to coaching advanced skiers on how to improve their form and start preparing to enter the course.

To give each skier enough time to get coaching and practice we are going to limit each boat to only 4 people and have 4 boats already confirmed to pull.  This will mean fewer paid people per boat so event cost are set to hopefully break-even on operating cost.

This event could fill-up quickly as we will put  no more than 4 people in each boat to allow each skier/coach enough time to practice a skill.

    Event Arrival Time

Please arrive at the dock no later than 9:15 a.m. so we have time to assign you to your boat and get your gear loaded for 9:30 a.m. departure

    Boat Departure time

Boats will start leaving the dock at 9:30 a.m. and no later than 9:40 a.m.   If you arrive after 9:40 a.m.  you most likely will have to wait at the dock until the boats return at noon.

    Event Lunch Plans:

Please plan on bringing a sack lunch to the event as the marina only has a few snack items in the store.  We mostly likely will meet back at Holland Riverside Marina around noon and have lunch at the picnic tables by the launch ramps or tie up the boats together in some slough if water conditions require we move too far away from the marina.

    Event Location & Directions

    Holland Riverside Marina
    7000 Holland Tract Rd
    Brentwood, CA 94513

Please do not park on the street level as that is reserved for people who berth their boats at the marina.  Guest are to park in the lower level.

    • On-Line Voting
    Hello BAWSC Members:

We are ready to start the election process for our 2025 BAWSC Officers.  The elections will take place during the month of October.

We are seeking people who are interested in the 4 Officer positions of the club which are voted on by our membership.  This is a great opportunity for you to get involved in the club next year and help guide the club as we enter our 30th year.  We are always looking for new ideas in how we can make the club more fun for everyone involved.  If you are interested in seeing the club continue as strongly in 2025, please consider volunteering to be an officer or board member in 2025.  Contributing back to the club either by participating as an officer, board member, or chair person, can be a very rewarding experience and will allow you to add new job competencies.

Please contact me (Larry Ligon at larry_ligon@sbcglobal.net) if you would like your name to be placed on the October ballot for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary.  The deadline for getting your name on the ballot is Friday October TBD.

If you would like to be considered for a position on the 2025 Board of Directors, please contact me with this information as well so we can gauge how much interest there is from the current membership for board positions.  The 2024 Board of Directors will be selected by the 2025 elected officers in November.

Please note that the board now meets by teleconference so it doesn't matter where you live to become an officer or board member of the club.  It requires a time commitment of  just 1.5 hours per month for board meetings and you help decide which events and policies the club should adopt going forward.

Feel free to contact any of the existing officers/board members if you have questions about any of the officer positions and what is involved as several of the current board members are past presidents and/or have been board members/officers of the club for well over a decade.

The official election/voting will commence on October TBD and run through October TBD.

    Thank you,

    Larry Ligon

    Vice President

    Officer Duties:

The President, or in his absence the Vice-Presidents in their order, or in the absence of a Vice-President, the Treasurer, shall preside at all meetings of the membership and the Board of Directors, and they shall perform the usual duties of the office.

The Vice-President, in their order, shall perform the duties of the President in the absence or inability of the President to discharge the duties of their office, and such other duties as the membership may determine from time to time.  The Vice-President will also be responsible for running the annual election and developing/publishing all board meeting agendas.

The Treasurer shall collect, receive and deposit funds of the BAWSC as directed by the Board of Directors; render periodic financial statements to the Board of Directors and the membership and render such other reports and accounts of the financial condition of the BAWSC as may from time to time be requested by the Board of Directors or the membership and shall perform such other duties as are included in the office of Treasurer.  Treasurer cannot write a check in excess of THREE-HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS ($350.00) without board authorization. Treasurer will provide summary cash flow statement at each general meeting or when requested by any member.

The Recording Secretary shall be responsible for the minutes and records of the meetings of the membership and the Board of Directors.
